EFT

There really is no ‘secret’ but EFT exerts a profound effect on us because it makes use of a natural way of comforting and healing ourselves, a way that we have been using since birth… EFT turns it into something new and powerful.

Here is the general idea: We all use our hands to comfort ourselves… every day of our lives. EFT simply makes use of this inborn ability in a more systematic way. For example:

-  Have you ever seen someone clap his hand to his forehead when distressed? He is giving himself comfort and support.

Or, have you seen someone bring her hand quickly to her face when she hears some shocking news? She is calming and steadying herself.

EFT uses this inborn way of comforting ourselves intentionally in an ingenious way. The tapping points used in EFT are particularly effective because they correspond to traditional acupuncture points used in Chinese medicine that bring about a sense of calm and reduce pain.

The advantages of using EFT are enormously appealing:

-  EFT is safe. I am not aware of any negative side effects reported from practitioners or clients after using EFT. Occasionally, people report feeling fatigued after using EFT for an extended period of time.
I believe this is the result of moving enormous amounts of previously blocked energy through one’s system. Since this fatigue can actually signify that the treatment is working and formerly congested energy has been released, it may be taken as a good sign.
In addition, the fatigue is temporarily and therefore not a lasting adverse effect.

-  Clients can use EFT on themselves. EFT is remarkably simple and can be used in the privacy of one’s own home. While many clients prefer to seek the expertise of a seasoned practitioner, ‘homework assignments’ can be completed between sessions and EFT can be applied for self-improvement in any area of one’s life.

-  EFT is time efficient. EFT allows clients to speed up their recovery from emotional challenges and, as a result, saves time and money.

What is EFT?

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) belongs to a new class of treatments referred to as Energy Psychology. EFT offers the potential for rapid and effective relief from many emotional problems, including trauma, anxiety, phobias, anger, sadness, grief, guilt, and many more.

Essentially, EFT is a form of psychological acupuncture, except we don’t use needles. Instead, we tap with the fingertips on specific body locations, while being tuned-in to the problem.

This tapping balances energy meridians while experiencing, or thinking about, an emotionally disturbing event. Once balanced, the upset is usually resolved. The memory stays, but the emotional charge is gone.

Typically, the result is lasting and is also accompanied by positive changes in thinking and new insights. The technique is safe, non-invasive, easy to use, and is an excellent tool for self-help.

The most exciting part about EFT is that anyone can learn this approach and use it to help themselves. Some problems require persistent tapping over a period of time, and some require the intervention of a skilled practitioner. However, many people can learn EFT and apply it successfully to the general problems and stresses in life.

Please note: while EFT has achieved excellent results with many physical conditions, the EFT technique should not be seen as a substitute for appropriate medical care. Please talk to your family physician or therapist regarding your use of EFT.
